Preschool

QSI believes in 'Success for All' and that all students can achieve at a high level given enough time and feedback. Mastery learning is the instructional strategy used in all QSI schools. Small class sizes allow the teacher to keep working with a student until the student demonstrates a high level of understanding on each topic of study

The Preschool program provides an American style, developmentally appropriate program of instruction. Students learn through meaningful activities including logical and critical thinking, problem solving, pre-mathematics skills, fine motor and gross motor skills, visual and auditory discrimination, vocabulary development, following directions, eye-hand coordination, independent thinking and spatial perception.

The Preschool program is designed for children ages 2 to 4. Children are placed by age. Children entering a class must reach the appropriate age (2 for 2-year-olds, 3 for 3-year-olds, 4 for 4-year-olds) no later than October 31 of the year they enter. Students in the preschool program should be potty-trained.

^†Specialist classes are offered on rotation and include: Art, Music, Physical Education, Chinese and Cooperation Team Building.

In addition to focusing on students' developmental growth, teachers also strive to teach the importance of lifelong values and characteristics that lead to success. We call these values Success Orientations. They include:

The Preschool program provides one healthy snack in the morning and one in the afternoon. Naptime takes place each afternoon after lunch. Students should bring their own bedding and a pillow to be comfortable. Bottles are not allowed. Students who no longer nap are able to go to an "awake room" where they work on quiet activities focusing on fine motor skills development.

Preschool students receive a Growth Report three times per year. These reports will be emailed home. Below are the evaluations used by QSI in the preschool program: 

S – Satisfactory: The student understands the topic or can complete the task 

P – Progressing: The student is working toward understanding of one or more objectives 

N – Not Yet: The student is still working on one or more objective. 

Preschool students are also evaluated on the Success Orientations using the same assessment evaluations listed above for each term.  

 Class Dojo

All elementary teachers will invite parents to join the protected platform of Class Dojo. The teacher will regularly share announcements, class news and photos here.
